I came to Israel from Ramallah with a set of piano chords and some recorded trombone, and asked Ziv to play a few minutes of stumbling and broken back beat, then something straighter and more intense at a different tempo. The skeleton of the piece was put together in a dingy east London studio a few days later, and instruments were recorded on the move. Musicians had their work cut out on this one. Recorded in Palestine, Israel, London and Derry.

The grooves on the latest from Sababa 5 are no joke. The songs are swerving & relentless and topped with giddy organ. Bandcamp New & Notable Nov 7, 2022
